How to wear the 80s to work
LONDON FashionWeek begins today and with it, the unofficial start to autumn and autumnal dressing.Yes, the catwalks will be full of next season’s spring/summer clothes, but they can still serve as an inspiration for making sure you’ve got all your clothes in place for the next few months.
Harriet Apple, a designer and graduate of the London College of Fashion, says:“The next few months are all about statements, with a big nod to the 1980s. We’re seeing a lot of velvet, shoulders, statement jewellery, ankle boots and studs. ‘Bodies’ – the tops that fasten under the crotch – are everywhere just now and are a huge throwback to the 80s.”
If the idea of wearing any of this to work puts you off your breakfast, panic not. We’ve picked out the best work-appropriate examples of the current style, and as you can see, they’re far from terrifying. They’re colourful, shiny and fun – and what’s wrong with that?
