Q. The cold is not letting up but I want to start planning my spring wardrobe. What are the essential things I should focus on to update my look right now? Any tips on how I can look like a star?
A. The 70s is having a real renaissance and judging from the collections on the catwalks right now that trend will be around for a while. You can dive straight into this glamorous look with high waisted flared trousers or jeans. Wear these right away with a silk blouse and a chunky platform boot. When the weather picks up you’ll be able to transform them with a heeled sandal and t-shirt.
As an evening look, the one-shouldered dress is a modern nod to a 70s throw back. For a warmer version try a long sleeved one shouldered top with trousers. Layer with a necklace to break up the neckline. It’s a chic way to flash some skin whilst remaining fairly covered up.
Since Natalie Portman’s twirls on the big screen, there is a real mood for something romantically graceful. Take inspiration from the world of ballet and keep your flesh covered with fine gossamer and sheer layers in nude tones, leotards and fitted tops. The bodysuit is also having a moment but if that is one pas de bourrée too ballerina for you, tap into the general spring trend for sport lux which is comfortable and chic – try neoprene fabrics which are both warm and tick that gracefully athletic box.
