Hong Kong Horse Racing Tips: Elusive State out to bag the hat-trick for Sha Tin punters
FORMER South African champion trainer Tony Millard has made his best ever start in Hong Kong since joining the trainer ranks back in 2000.
With 13 winners already on the board, and currently joint leader in the trainers’ title race, he is on fire.
He saddles four runners at Sha Tin this afternoon and all of them have at least frame chances.
When stable apprentice Victor Wong climbs aboard one of Millard’s horses it’s always worth noting. The combination already has a 23 per cent record this season and the duo pair up in the opening two races.
Sunny Orient has no form to recommend him in the opener at 11.15am over the extended mile, but this is his first race on dirt, and he has won his last three trials on the surface in impressive fashion.
Young Dreamer is both consistent and has a liking for the surface, and lines up in the 11.45am over six furlongs. He should be hard to keep out of the frame.
Millard’s best chance of success looks to be progressive ELUSIVE STATE in the Class 3 handicap over the extended mile at 2.20pm.
This former Australian racer is on a hat-trick after winning both his races on turf this season.
On paper, another 5lb penalty for his latest win makes life look tough, but his last venture on dirt saw him win by five-and-a-half lengths in July, and he could still be in front of the handicapper.
In the same race, keep an eye on long-shot BLOCKER DEE who is much better than his recent form suggests. He is capable of a surprise.
