Hong Kong invites global talent: Explore Asia’s next career opportunity in London

Plenty of UK professionals say they would like to work abroad. Far fewer act on it. But “if you would love to do it, why not do it?,” asks Paul Moody, Managing Director at CFA Institute, who recently made a move to Hong Kong after participating in Global Talent Summit Week 2026, hosted by Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE). For anyone in London asking the same question, both the opportunities and the process of getting there will be set out at the Hong Kong: Global Talent & Career Showcase in London, taking place on October 17 and 18.
Hong Kong, a gateway to Asia
Hong Kong is not simply a place to relocate to. It’s a practical next step for those seeking to further their careers somewhere that has a dynamic quality of life and offers plenty of regional opportunities. The opportunities span the city itself, the Chinese Mainland and the wider Asia-Pacific region, across sectors from banking and finance to innovation and technology to professional services. Hong Kong “gives you unique access into the Chinese Mainland as a bridge, while remaining connected to international markets,” adds Moody, who is returning to the London showcase as a speaker this year.

For UK professionals, the ground is familiar. Hong Kong operates a common law system, English is a working language of business, and the international professional community is long-established and still growing. Alongside world-class infrastructure and proximity to the Chinese Mainland, the city runs talent admission schemes designed to move qualified people through quickly.
A network that opens on day one
Hong Kong also has the advantage of a growing international community. In Hong Kong, “you are pulled into the community on day one, in a good way,” says Moody.
He encountered that openness before he ever moved, at the HKTE’s event earlier this year. “Everybody I spoke to was remarkably friendly. When I mentioned that I was considering moving to Hong Kong, everyone wanted to help, support and offer information and advice — regardless of how senior they were or what background they came from. They were also genuinely interested in me, which made me feel at home very quickly. That sense of a network and community, and how easy it was to break into, is probably what stayed with me most,” says Moody.
Comprehensive global talent support
You don’t have to move alone. Hong Kong Talent Engage offers comprehensive support services to talent interested in making the move, along with a partner network connecting professionals to the community and to career opportunities, making settlement and integration smooth and easy.
“The professionals we meet have usually done their research on the role. What we add is everything around it, how the admission schemes work, what the first few months look like, where you find your community. We are bringing that support to London, so the professional and the personal questions can be answered in person on your doorstep,” says Felix Chan, Director of HKTE.

Meet the employers in London
Designed for meaningful, face-to-face interaction, this two-day showcase is where opportunity meets ambition. More than 200 roles from 50 renowned enterprises across Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland—spanning Banking & Finance, I&T, Engineering & Construction, and other professional services—are within reach. Attendees can drop off their CVs on the spot and speak directly with company representatives. Expert-led forums will unpack the talent landscape and market trends in Hong Kong, while global professionals who have already made the move to Hong Kong share their first-hand stories. With 10 workshops delivering practical advice, career tips, and the chance to build the professional network that a move of this kind depends on, this is more than a showcase—it is a launchpad.

“Hong Kong’s value to a UK professional is access to the Chinese Mainland, to the wider Asia-Pacific region, to capital and clients that are harder to reach from here. The showcase is an opportunity to interrogate that properly, with the employers and recruiters who are actually hiring. I would encourage anyone giving this serious thought to come and ask the questions that matter to them,” added Moody.
UK professionals seeking to understand the opportunity and the admission process in greater detail are invited to attend the Hong Kong · Global Talent & Career Showcase @London taking place on October 17 and 18 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster. Registration is open now!
