Hatton Garden jewel heist update: Police hunt for missing van after nine suspects arrested
"An intense investigation has been undertaken to ensure the victims, the individual box owners, the small businesses and the wider Hatton Garden community can get justice."
It also admitted that the failure to respond to an alarm triggered while the heist was taking place was down to the police's call handling system and "procedures for working for working with the alarm monitoring companies were not followed".
"Our normal procedures would have resulted in police attending the scene, and we apologise that this did not happen."
Detective superintendent Craig Turner, head of the Flying Squad, added: “This has been an exceptional, complex investigation and I thank everyone for remaining patient. I think this sends a message in relation to this type of crime that is committed within London that the MPS will do as much as they can to bring justice to those victims of crime.”
Police are still searching for the van thought to have been used in the heist.
Turner said: "I would like to make an appeal for information around a van that was seen in the area of Hatton Garden over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
