Google invests in new wave of audio security from SlickLogin
GOOGLE has bought Israeli startup SlickLogin, which has developed password security using soundwaves.
The technology works by playing a uniquely generated, almost-silent sound from a computer’s speakers, which is picked up by an app on the user’s phone. The app analyses the sound and sends a signal back to confirm identity.
SlickLogin confirmed the deal on its website, without giving financial details. It stated: “Today we’re announcing that the SlickLogin team is joining Google, a company that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way.”
Google already has a two-step verification system to access accounts. The technology is likely to be used either as a password replacement or extra security.
