FOOD & BOOZE NEWS
HAWKSMOOR TO OPEN IN EC2
Big news for the City, this. Late last year Hawksmoor, the celebrated East End restaurant and bar that serves up some of the finest steak in London, opened a second branch to great acclaim in Covent Garden. Well, Hawksmoor number three, Hawksmoor Guildhall, will be opening in the City, on Basinghall Street, in the autumn. Expect vast, perfectly cooked rib eyes, chips cooked in beef dripping and the best Bloody Marys – plus a walk-in wine room – to welcome in the first hungry City folk in October. www.facebook.com/hawksmoor
DEVONSHIRE TERRACE REVAMP
Devonshire Terrace, the restaurant and bar that opened a couple of years ago in a closed square off Bishopsgate, has had a £400,000 facelift. Now operated by City stalwart Corney & Barrow, it’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – think steaks ‘n’ burgers – and has a spirits and cocktails list as long as a commodities trader’s arm. www.devonshireterrace.co.uk

Last week The Hummingbird Bakery opened a brand new store on Frying Pan Alley in Spitalfields, offering its full menu, bespoke “cakes by consultation”, and deliveries to Canary Warf. Enjoy. www.hummingbirdbakery.com
BRINDISA’S HAM SCHOOL
No, not a place for practicing your Shakespearean delivery. Brindisa, the much-loved tapas restaurant and delicatessen in Borough Market, is offering to tutor people in the ways of jamon. You can learn your Extremdura from your Jabugo, and find out about slow curing and Iberico pigs, at sessions that take place twice a month over the summer. Visit: www.brindisa.com
