Free vodka martinis and other ways to celebrate National Vodka Day
This week Londoners venturing to Borough Yard will find a 4m-high fountain delivering a supply of free vodka martinis.
Every adult will be eligible to take one free vodka martini as part of a promotion by Swedish vodka brand Svedka, with 200 cocktails on offer each day. The event takes place at Borough Yards and is open from 5pm-9pm on Wednesday and Thursday.
If you’re having trouble finding the exact location, fear not – just look out for the life-size “robots” patrolling the area directing drinkers to their free booze. The event is timed to coincide with National Vodka Day, which will be celebrated this Sunday.
Other great places to grab a martini include nearby Café François, which is serving martinis and frites for just £10 from 5pm on Sunday. Marylebone restaurant Kitchen at Holmes is also offering martinis and fries from 12pm-9pm at the bar and terrace, with five innovative twists on the classic cocktail.
And Leadenhall Market steakhouse MRBL is offering an “adult happy meal”, serving a vodka martini – “as dirty as you dare” – alongside a portion of fries for a not unreasonable £14.
The K Bar at the five-star Kensington hotel is pairing its martinis – shaken tableside – with posh crisps, while Covent Garden’s Eve Bar is going the fancier route and running a martini and caviar tasting flight.
But only one venue will have robots wandering around and a towering fountain of booze, so factor that in.
