Final six Tesco Homeplus stores to close
TESCO will end its non-grocery Homeplus stores across the UK with the closure of its remaining locations.
The last six of the retailer’s Homeplus stores will close, with the loss of 450 jobs, halting its venture in non-food retailing in the UK as it seeks to turnaround huge losses.
Stores in Bracknell, Bromborough in Cheshire, Bristol, Nottingham, Denton in Manchester and Preston will close on 27 June.
Tesco is planning to place the 450 staff elsewhere.
“We’ve taken the difficult decision to close our remaining six Homeplus stores. Our priority is now to explain what this announcement means for our colleagues and, wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco,” a company spokesperson said.
The supermarket shuttered six of 12 Homeplus stores in January amid the closure of 43 stores in the same month.
In addition, the company will either seek to surrender the leases for the stores, or find alternative retailers to become tenants. The supermarket chain ruled out the option of Tesco food stores opening in their place.
