Eurotunnel train breaks down in Channel Tunnel on route to France causing six-hour delays
Hundreds of rail passengers faced long delays to their journeys today after a French-bound train was forced to a halt as disruptions struck the Eurotunnel power line between the UK and France.
The passenger train, carrying 382 people and four dogs, had to be evacuated just a quarter of the way through the tunnel after a problem with the overhead power lines.
Passengers were told to expect six-hour delays, one hour at check-in and five hours on the terminal, with Eurostar warning that hold-ups were expected throughout the day.
"Our passenger service is currently operating with some timetable disruption, this is due to an incident in the Tunnel which is in the process of being resolved," Eurotunnel said in a statement.
Those booked to travel were urged to postpone their journeys.
"If travel today is non-essential you can exchange your ticket, free of charge, to another available service within the next four months," according to the statement.
Queues were seen building up at St Pancras while the problem was being resolved.
