Donald Trump slams ‘wacky’ UK ambassador and ‘foolish’ Prime Minister
Donald Trump has branded the UK’s ambassador to the US “wacky” and “stupid” in another highly personal attack on Sir Kim Darroch.

In a series of tweets, the US President also hit out at Theresa May’s “failed Brexit negotiation”, labelling her as “foolish” for not taking his advice to sue the European Union.
The comments are the latest from Trump after leaked memos from Darroch revealed the UK ambassador thought the US administration was “inept” and “uniquely dysfunctional”.
On Monday, Trump vowed to cut ties with Darroch, who was subsequently disinvited to a dinner with the US treasury secretary and the emir of Qatar.
Downing Street is standing by Darroch, who has been the UK’s ambassador to the US since January 2016, and has launched a cross-government inquiry into how the memos were leaked to the Mail on Sunday.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, Trump showed no sign he was willing to move on from the incident.
Earlier today May offered Darroch her full support despite Trump’s onslaught against the envoy.
Trump yesterday claimed Darroch was “not liked or well though of within the US” but May’s spokesman today said:
“We have made clear to the US how unfortunate this leak is. The selective extracts leaked do not reflect the closeness of, and the esteem in which we hold, the relationship,” a government spokesperson said.
“At the same time we have also underlined the importance of ambassadors being able to provide honest, unvarnished assessments of the politics in their country.
“Sir Kim Darroch continues to have the Prime Minister’s full support,” he added.
“The UK has a special and enduring relationship with the US based on our long history and commitment to shared values and that will continue to be the case.”
