Cheshire spends night in hospital after suffering concussion in fall
TEENAGE halfpipe skier Rowan Cheshire spent last night in hospital after suffering concussion in a heavy fall during training at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park in Sochi, Team GB confirmed.
Cheshire, 18, is due to compete on Thursday when qualifying begins at 2.30pm British time, but it is yet to be determined whether she will be fit enough to do so.
A Team GB statement read: “Rowan Cheshire fell during halfpipe training.
“She was attended to by the medical team at the halfpipe then taken to the polyclinic in the Mountain Village for further assessment. After examination by Team GB medical personnel it is confirmed that she has a concussion and, as a precaution, will stay at a local hospital overnight for further evaluation.
She will be evaluated further during the coming days before a determination is made about her fitness to compete.”
Cheshire had made a storming start to 2014, becoming the first British woman ever to win a halfpipe World Cup event in January.
She also came third in last year’s Junior World Championships, though is unlikely to be in serious medal contention in Russia.
