Cheltenham Festival betting tips: Go with old timers Bless The Wings and Any Currency
MARMITE is probably the most accurate description for this afternoon’s Cross Country Chase (4.10pm) – you either love it or hate it.
Horses are no different, it would seem. Some simply never take to this unique course, whilst others come back time after time and perform well.
Cantlow has been a hot favourite for this since winning here in December, but he’s been weak in the betting recently as punters have steamed into JP McManus’ other runner Cause Of Causes.
Gordon Elliott’s nine-year-old has won at the last two Festivals and he clearly comes alive at this time of year.
However, he didn’t look a natural over the banks and ditches when finishing fifth here on Trials Day.
I prefer the chances of stablemate BLESS THE WINGS, who was promoted to second in this race last year behind Josies Orders after Any Currency was disqualified for testing positive for a banned substance.
He ran really well that day before going on to finish second in the Irish National last April and was then another good second to Cantlow here in December, conceding plenty of weight.
He really deserves one of these and has the perfect pilot in Davy Russell. Take the 14/1 with 188BET.
I also can’t let the aforementioned ANY CURRENCY go unbacked at the same price.
It was heart-breaking for connections to have last year’s trophy stripped from them and compensation may await.
Although he is now in his teenage years, he loves it round and here and gets on really well with jockey Aidan Coleman.
