Cameron pal found dead
PRIME minister David Cameron led tributes yesterday for Conservative Party official and friend Christopher Shale, who was found dead at the Glastonbury music festival.
Shale, 56, who was chairman of the Conservative Association in Cameron’s own West Oxfordshire constituency, was found in a portable toilet in a VIP backstage area, close to the main press tent.
“[My wife] Sam and I were devastated to hear the news about Christopher,” Cameron said in a statement. “He was a great friend and has been a huge support over the last decade in West Oxfordshire. A big rock in my life has suddenly been rolled away.”
Police said the married father of three’s death was not suspicious.
Shale’s death coincided with a mention of him in a Sunday newspaper, which portrayed him as critical of his Conservative association.
