Businesses call for spaceport
INVESTING in a spaceport should form a key part of the UK’s infrastructure strategy, a leading business group said today, as it would help Britain take the lead in a major emerging industry.
“A spaceport would be a key piece of infrastructure for the sector operating as a hub for space tourism, research and development,” the Institute of Directors’ report said.
Pointing to the high value of space tourism and contracts awarded to the private sector to supply the international space station, the IoD believes the private sector could fund much of the construction, which could cost as little as £120m if former RAF bases are adapted for space travel.
