Business leaders back the coalition but also demand quick economic decisions
BUSINESSES backed the new Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government last night, saying it will bring much needed stability to the economy.
Richard Lambert, CBI director-general, said: “Business wants to see a stable government… this coalition should have the votes and the mandate to get on with the job.”
Cameron has committed to holding an emergency budget within the next fifty days, with the cutting of the budget deficit likely to be the number one priority.
“Fixing the public finances must be at the top of the agenda. The Conservative-led coalition must be absolutely clear about where spending cuts will fall,” said David Frost of the British Chambers of Commerce.
But the Forum of Private Business warned that the coalition was a fragile partnership with plenty to prove. Phil Orford chief executive of the small business support group said: “Hopefully, Mr Cameron’s appointment will herald the beginning of a workable government which well ensure economic stability.”
