British productivity on the rise
Productivity in the UK rose by 40 per cent between 1991 and 2007, the fastest of all G7 countries, the Office for National Statistics said yesterday. However, the measure (GDP per worker) fell during the recent recession era (2007-2009). In terms of GDP per hour worked, the UK remains below Germany, France and the US, but above Japan and similar to Canada and Italy. The US continues to lead the way in both measures of productivity, while Germany has the second highest GDP per hour out of the G7.
