Brace yourselves: there are now less than 48 hours to go until the year’s biggest shopping frenzy hits, with UK shoppers predicted to part with a record-smashing £1bn this Black Friday.
Retail giants like John Lewis, Asda, Tesco and Amazon may be reaping the biggest rewards from the massive Black Friday sales spike – but it turns out small businesses are getting a slice of the action, too.
UK small businesses account for more than half of the bargains on online marketplace EBay, which revealed today it’s expecting traffic to multiply by 15 with millions of shoppers are expected to visit the site on Friday alone.
“Over nine million UK shoppers are expected to visit us on Black Friday alone – and we’ve put small businesses front and centre with that audience,” said Tanya Lawwler, vice president of EBay UK.
And the high street is getting in on the fun, too. Sales and transaction figures from point-of-sale software provider Vend shows that the Black Friday boost to small businesses goes beyond online sales.
Last year, according to Vend’s data, small businesses had a 37 per cent boost in retail spend on Black Friday, and sales volumes soared by 19 per cent.
Manchester businesses had the biggest spike in sales volume, with 47 per cent more shoppers hitting their stores compared to an average Friday in November.
