Betting on England weak says top bookmaker
Betting fans have abandoned England in the run-up to this year’s European Championships, according to a top bookmaker.
Despite two successive English victories against Norway and Belgium, England fans seem to have little faith in their team’s ability to clinch the European title.
Coral have received ‘very few’ bets on England triumphing this summer whilst William Hill have described the overall betting pattern on England as ‘tentative’, only taking in an approximate £50,000.
The lack of faith in England’s chances are further reflected by the bookmakers’ odds, reaching as high as 14/1 at both Ladbrokes and Bet365.
France, despite trailing by eight places in 14th to England in the Fifa rankings, have proved to be hot prospects in the eyes of pundits.
The team have put their dire experience at the 2010 World Cup behind them, having remained unbeaten in twenty-one games. At Ladbrokes and Bet365 France are 9/1, making them fourth favourites.
Holland have also attracted significant support, being ranked as third favourites in the tournament with 6/1 odds at William Hill and Bet365.
Spain remain favourites going into the tournament as holders with 11/4 odds at William Hill, Ladbrokes and Bet365 to repeat their 2008 success.
