Aerie Wharf: 19 towers planned
The Capitalist hotfooted it over to the Building Centre near Goodge St yesterday for the preview of exhibition “London’s Growing Up.”
The Centre’s scale model of London had additional white models for buildings already in process and coloured tags where towers have been approved. As you can see, Canary Wharf and the surrounding area is set to change dramatically. There are some 54 towers planned for Tower Hamlets (it’s all in the name) 19 of which are in Canary Wharf.
“People are surprised to see how many towers are in planning – we are surprised ourselves,” curator Peter Murray told The Capitalist. His favourites? The Leadenhall Building and Canary Wharf’s Herzog & de Meuron designed residential tower. “It looks like eaten corn on the cob.”
