MONTENEGRO vs ENGLAND
ENGLAND are in a dominant position in Group G and know that a point against Montenegro tonight will be enough to see them through to next summer’s European Championship finals. It’s been a solid qualifying campaign by Fabio Capello’s side and the manager will want them to go through it unbeaten.
Montenegro are no pushovers, as demonstrated by the goalless draw between the sides at Wembley just under a year ago. They are England’s closest pursuers and know that they have to win tonight, as well as in Switzerland next week, to stand any chance of qualifying automatically.
I’m pretty sure, however, that they will settle for second-place and if they get a point, they’ll know that their destiny is in their own hands when they go to Basle next Tuesday. Switzerland sit three points behind them in the table and have a tricky trip to the Millennium Stadium tonight.
Montenegro have won two and drawn one of their three home qualifiers and there have only been four goals scored in those games. England have won all three of their away games so far, but I reckon they’d be happy with a point and I’d suggest backing the draw at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
We’ve seen that Montenegro haven’t been involved in many high scoring games and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a repeat of last October’s goalless draw. No goalscorer is available at 8/1 with Ladbrokes and I’d also advise spread bettors to sell total goals at 2.3 with Sporting Index.
