Ukip spokesman compares party to Black Death… positively
Ukip’s general secretary has compared the party to the Black Death – but suggested that was a positive thing.
The far-right party has suffered the most in the local elections, losing 92 seats to leave it with just two across the whole of Britain.
Defending the anti-immigration party’s performance Paul Oakley this morning told the Today Programme: “Think of the Black Death in the Middles Ages. It comes along, goes dormant, and then comes back.
“That’s exactly what we are going to do. Our time isn’t finished because Brexit is being betrayed.”
Asked if he was sure he wanted to compare his party to a plague that killed millions of people, Oakley said: “Absolutely. What’s wrong with that?”
He doubled-down, claiming the disease – which is estimated to have wiped out between 30 and 60 per cent of the world’s population – “also led to economic growth and the Renaissance.
“It got rid of the whole issue of servitude, basically, and allowed people to go into the towns and escape their landlords and create their own businesses.”
Defiant, he’s followed up with a bold tweet.
