14 per cent of UK adults have never used the internet
As of the second quarter of 2013, 14 per cent of UK adults, or 7.1m people, had never used the internet, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (release).
Those living in Northern Ireland were most likely to be unaquainted, with over a fifth (21 per cent) of respondents saying they had never used it. London and the south east were the regions with the highest proportion of internet users, with 89 per cent having been online at least once.
Since the ONS began its survey in the first quarter of 2013, the number of internet users has increased by seven per cent, or 2.9m, to 43.6m people.
As can be expected, there is a large disparity over age, with 99 per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds having used the internet compared with just a third of adults aged 75 or over.
There is also a slight disparity across gender, with 12 per cent of men and 16 per cent of women having never used it.
