WATKINS Syndicate’s Dominick Hoare has scooped the title of leading underwriter in the London market, as voted by his peers, in a ranking of almost 900 individual insurance workers by research consultancy Gracechurch.
Meanwhile, in a vote by insurance brokers, Mark Pepper from Ascot took the top spot, while Hoare came in second.
Hoare, who is also a director of Munich Re Underwriting, joined Watkins in 1994 and specialises in energy underwriting. Pepper, Ascot’s chief underwriting officer, specialises in reinsurance.
Gracechurch boss Ben Bolton said the separate brokers’ and underwriters’ ranking show the differences in the characteristics admired by those two groups.
“The approaches for each audience require different mixes of capabilities and this should be built into talent management plans and a team’s diversity,” he added.
