Workers start to look for new jobs as labour market improves
NEARLY a fifth of workers plan to move to a new job this year as the UK labour market continues to improve.
A survey released today by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) suggests that 19 per cent of workers are planning to leave their current employment.
One in 10 of those who want to move from their job are aiming to become self employed.
“UK employees are beginning to reassess the job market and look into a range of new opportunities, from starting a new job to developing a new business,” commented Charles Elvin, chief executive of the ILM.
Another third of workers are not sure if they will stay in their job or find other work this year,
Unemployment dropped to 7.4 per cent in the three months to October, down from 7.8 per cent 12 months earlier.
However, most workers say that their main professional aim for the year ahead is not to move into better jobs, but to achieve a better work-life balance.
Nearly a third of employees want a more flexible working environment, while 28 per cent say new training or qualifications are their current priority.
