Wolves win ominous for Hammers
WOLVES (3) vs WEST BROM (1)
WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy hailed record signing Steven Fletcher after his goals lifted them out of the relegation zone and heaped further pressure on West Ham.
Fletcher, who cost £7m last summer from Burnley, scored two and set up Adlene Guedioura for the other as McCarthy’s men climbed to 17th.
They are now one point clear of the bottom three and four points ahead of the Hammers, who remain last in the Premier League with just two games remaining.
McCarthy said of Fletcher: “He has scored some important goals and it is lovely to be proved right. I spent millions. He was my first choice. I thought it was the best piece of business I could have done.
“I think he has proved to be exactly what I thought he would be. He was delighted with his goals and I am thrilled with him.”
West Brom, who have secured their top flight status, were already three goals down when Peter Odemwingie pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 55th minute.
Fletcher’s first came from a Guedioura chest down and the Scotsman returned the favour to the Algerian before half time. Fletcher slotted his second after a slip by Baggies defender Abdoulaye Meite.
