WINNERS & LOSERS
A WEEKEND is a long time in sport – as this lot will attest. But while for some it was one to remember, others may wish they had never set foot out of the house. Here are this weekend’s heroes and villains.
WINNER
PADRAIG HARRINGTON
The three-time Major winner ended a two-year trophy drought that stretched back to the 2008 USPGA with a three-stroke triumph at the Johor Open in Malaysia yesterday.
WINNER
VITALI KLITSCHKO
One half of Ukraine’s heavyweight double act, Vitali successfully defended his WBC title for the fifth time with a unanimous points victory over American Shannon Briggs in Hamburg on Saturday.
WINNER
GLOUCESTER
The Premiership side filled their boots when Italian outfit Rovigo came knocking in the Amlin Challenge Cup on Saturday, runnning in 14 tries in a 90-7 drubbing. Jonny May (pictured) got three.
LOSER
KEVIN PIETERSEN
The hemisphere might have changed, but KP’s struggle with the bat remains the same. The England star, back in his native South Africa in a bid to find form, was out for a duck for the Dolphins on Friday.
LOSER
JACK WILSHERE
Arsenal’s midfield prodigy has enjoyed a dream start to the season but his fortunes turned on Saturday when he was shown a straight red card for a dangerous-looking lunge on Birmingham’s Nikola Zigic.
