Wiggins brands it like Beckham after signing with Fuller’s team
OLYMPIC and Tour de France champion Sir Bradley Wiggins has joined David Beckham by signing a deal with Pop Idol creator Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment.
The British rider, 33, said he hoped the joint venture with Fuller’s company would help him to accomplish more “personally and for cycling as a whole”.
Belgian-born Wiggins, who won Olympic road racing gold and the Tour de France in a landmark 2012, also joins Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and Formula One star Lewis Hamilton at XIX Entertainment.
“The new partnership aims to take advantage of the growth in global cycling participation and Wiggins’ own unique position as one of the sport’s most successful figures, to create innovative business opportunities worldwide,” the company said in a statement.
Fuller, who started out in the music industry before moving into television and, more recently, sport, called Wiggins “an inspiring man of the people, who has endeared himself to followers worldwide through the scale and manner of his success”.
He added: “He enjoys both an extraordinary past and a clear and ambitious view of the future through to Rio [the 2016 Olympics] and beyond. We are thrilled to be partnering him at this exciting time for him and the sport.”
