Who’s facing the axe in 2016? Bookmaker offers odds on CEO sackings
Let's face it; everyone dreads the first day back at work. To keep stress levels especially high at the top, bookies Ladbrokes have been drawing up odds on which CEOs will be clearing their desks by the end of the year.
Only two chiefs can afford to relax, according to the firm; Easyjet’s Carolyn McCall and Taylor Wimpey’s Peter Redfern, whose likelihood of being replaced by a fresh face stands at 33/1 and 25/1 respectively.
Marc Bolland, chief executive at Marks and Spencer, is under a lot of pressure after yet another dismal set of half-year results for the retailer. Will it be curtains for the high street boss? It’s not looking good, with odds of 4/5 for a 2016 departure.
Things have also been rough for Sports Direct’s executive staff. It’s been a year of legal battles and defending zero-hour contracts for the firm’s boss Dave Forsey, which always makes for a good public image. It’s 7/4 that he’ll be handing in his reasonably-priced kit by the end of the year.
Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer found herself increasingly under fire at the end of last year and bookies say she won’t last, with odds at 4/7.
Turning to a younger website, will Twitter want a fresh face as well this year? It’s been a rough few months since Jack Dorsey returned to the hot seat in October. It’s evens he’s out.
One would think that Portuguese banking star Antonio Horta-Osorio is out of the firing line after Lloyds won City A.M.’s Bank of the Year award, but 2016 will be a tough year in the push to reduce taxpayer stakes in the firm. It’s 3/1 that he’ll go.
Finally, there’s the saga of whether HSBC will move its headquarters away from the UK. And furthermore, will chief executive Stuart Gulliver also be hitting the road? At 4/1, he’s safer than many…
