Who will get all the wonga in Damelin split?
BOSS of payday loan company Wonga Errol Damelin has split up with his Julie, the mother of the couple’s three young children.
Wonga refused to comment on the split last night but the couple’s law firm Lewis Silkin confirmed: “It is with sadness that Errol and Julie Damelin announce they are to separate amicably.”
The couple’s lawyer added that the pair “remain fully committed to the welfare and happiness of their children.”
Damelin and his wife have three children together, aged four, 12 and 14.
Wonga was the subject of some embarrassment for Archbishop Justin Welby last month when the church of England’s plan to take on the payday lender was foiled when it was revealed to have invested in a venture capital firm – Accel Partners – that had given financial backing to Wonga.
At this stage Damelin’s lawyer was keen to point out that no mention had yet been made of the couple divorcing, and how that might impact Damelin’s shareholding.
At least if he finds himself in need of a short term cash loan, he’ll know where to go.
