What you need to know before the US open – 10/02
Today’s looking like something of a waiting game for US markets, as investors ready themselves for Janet Yellen’s first public appearance as Fed chair tomorrow, speaking to US lawmakers.
It also looks like investors may be coming off Friday’s high. After equities rallied at the end of the week, futures suggest a slip at the open: the S&P 500 was down 0.15 per cent, the Nasdaq up 0.01 per cent and the Dow down 0.11 per cent in pre-market trading.
Despite last week's gains, the S&P 500 is still three per cent lower so far this year.
Although starting the week, there's something of a lack of economic data, things will pick up as we go on.
