Watch an artist create the world’s largest 3D pen sculpture – of a Nissan
Carmaker Nissan has just revealed the largest 3D pen sculpture ever produced – and it’s oddly mesmerising to watch.
The sculpture uses “3Doodler” 3D pen technology to “draw” a full-sized replica of Nissan’s new Qashqai, to celebrate the car’s launch.
Measuring at 4.4m long and 1.6m high, the piece is made up of 13.8 kilometres of plastic strands. It took a team of 3D pen artists over 800 man-hours to complete over a three-week period.
The project’s lead artist Grace Du Prez has added that “this is by far and away my most ambitious commission to date. It demonstrates how far 3D printing technology has come and how it can be used by anyone.”
3D pens allow the user to draw in the air to create three-dimensional shapes and patterns. It works by heating solid plastic to 230 degrees celsius and forcing it through a 0.7mm nozzle as it cools.
