United score big as commercial and TV deals drive record results
THE BOOM in income for English football’s top clubs is showing no sign of slowing down, with Manchester United raking in nearly £100m in its first three months of a new fiscal year.
Releasing its first quarter results yesterday, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward also said that the new £900m BT deal to show the European Champions League and Europa League from 2015 would be worth upwards of £10m a season to each English club that qualifies.
United’s exceptional success with commercial deals was reflected in a 39.3 per cent jump in this revenue stream to £59.9m in the quarter ending 30 September.
And the seemingly ever-growing levels of TV cash were shown by a 40.9 per cent leap in broadcasting revenue to £19.3m. United said total revenue hit a record £98.5m, and predicts annual revenue to come in at £420m-£430m. Its debt level is £361m.
