United missing 14 players for Germany trip
WOLFSBURG vs. MANCHESTER UTD
MANCHESTER UNITED’S injury crisis deepened further last night when strike pair Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov became the latest players to be ruled out.
Rooney and Berbatov are set to miss this evening’s trip to German champions Wolfsburg with ankle and groin injuries respectively.
They are among a staggering 14 first team stars missing from the squad, notably in defence, where manager Sir Alex Ferguson is without nine players.
That could mean a back four including three midfielders – Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher – or a rearguard sorely lacking in experience. United need only a draw to top Group B, but Wolfsburg boast a much-feared forward pairing of Brazilian Grafite and sought-after Bosnian Edin Dzeko.
“There’s no good news with all these injured players,” said Ferguson. “We’ve left several players behind and have a lot of thinking to do about team selection.”
