Unite to delay strike ballot on new BA offer
UNITE has decided to postpone balloting British Airways (BA) cabin crew on another potential strike after the trade union said that it will give members time to consider a new offer made by the airline.
A third strike ballot was expected yesterday, but an offer made by BA management last week caused Unite to delay the vote.
“We have agreed to postpone the strike ballot to allow the offer to be consulted on,” a Unite spokeswoman said yesterday.
The new offer from BA includes two years of guaranteed rises in basic salary from February 2011 in addition to annual incremental pay increases.
BA said that if the ballot went AHEAD, it would remove its offer.
“We believe our offer is fair and reasonable and provides a genuine opportunity to end this dispute,” a spokesman from the airline said.
