Unison plans ballot over pension strike
UNISON is preparing to ballot its members over what could be a massive wave of strike action.
The UK’s biggest public sector union is ready to press ahead with the plan if the government does not cave on its planned three per cent increase in employee pension contributions.
Unison, which represents 1.3m workers, says it will give the government until a planned meeting on 27 June before it begins one of the biggest ever strike ballots.
General secretary Dave Prentis said: “This will be a major dispute. It will not be one day of action, it will be long-term industrial action throughout our public services.”
Cabinet office minister Francis Maude said the government remains committed to resolving the dispute.
