Ukraine PM vows to meet IMF’s requirements
UKRAINE’S Prime Minister yesterday promised that his government will meet all the requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to get a loan, as a fact-finding team from the global lender arrives in Kiev.
IMF representatives are expected to spend 10 days in Ukraine discussing reforms that would need to happen for the country to be offered a package of financial support.
“This government will fulfill all the requirements of the IMF for the simple reason that it is our only option,” he said at a meeting with the European Business Association in Kiev yesterday, according to the Kyiv Post.
Ukraine admitted last week it needed a total of $35bn in aid over the next two years to avoid financial collapse, including urgent short-term loans.
IMF head Christine Lagarde urged calm last week over the terms of delivering economic aid to Ukraine, saying: “We do not see anything that is critical, that is worthy of panic at the moment”.
