Ukraine peace deal unravelling fast as violence flares in the east
A FRAGILE peace deal, agreed between Russia and Ukraine last Thursday, looks to be unravelling after reports that two pro-Ukrainian supporters, one a politician, were tortured and killed emerged yesterday.
Acting Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov called for counter-terrorist operations, suspended last week as part of the peace deal, to resume in eastern Ukraine.
“The terrorists who effectively took the whole Donetsk region hostage have now gone too far, by starting to torture and murder Ukrainian patriots. These crimes are being committed with the full support and connivance of the Russian Federation,” Turchynov said.
The threat came as US vice-president Joe Biden pleaded his support for the Ukrainian government, promising money for political and economic reform and non-lethal military support.
