Toyota to boost hybrids output
TOYOTA intends to double its output of petrol-electric hybrid cars to 1m units next year in an attempt to pull further ahead of its rivals.
By 2011, hybrid cars are likely to make up 30 per cent of all vehicles made by Toyota in Japan, up from around 20 per cent in 2009, according to a report by Nikkei. Hybrids currently make up eight per cent of Toyota’s global output. The Toyota Prius became the biggest selling car in Japan in 2009. The carmaker plans to increase the number of sites where it can assemble hybrid models, putting them at the core of their business.
