The City’s top skiers fight for glory on Italian slopes
The 2010 City Ski Championships Courmayeur, Vallee d’Aoste, Saturday 20 March 2010
THE competition for the City Ski Championships gets hotter each year, but this year’s championships were dominated by Accenture which came away with all the main prizes. With the strap-line “High Performance. Delivered”, this Accenture certainly did on the Le Greye piste of Courmayeur. Peter Beardshaw took the individual men’s champion’s medal and also captained Accenture 1 to victory in the team competition. Bettony Garner from the Ski Club of GB took the honours in the Ladies’ race.
This year also saw the first “Lloyd’s of London Cup” take place within the championships with teams from the insurance sector across Europe competing. Lloyd’s France took the team prize, with Filippo Guerrini-Maraldi of RK Harrison winning the individual. Ferrari Trento supplied the prizes.
The competition is also open to skiers within the City who have previously skied at a professional level. This year’s competition brought three exceptional skiers into open battle with both Jan Zajackowski and Jerome Neuraz from GFI stockbrokers nudging Einar Johansen of Bank of America Merrill Lynch into third place.
The championships closed with an auction at the Cavendish Ware dinner for children’s charity Halow, chosen by Damon Hill, a great supporter of the City Ski Championships.
Next year’s championships will run across the long weekend of 17–20 March 2011. To book: contact organisers Momentum Ski on 020 7371 9111. www.cityskichampionships.com.
