Tax protestors target Topshop
Topshop owner and government efficiency adviser Sir Philip Green has been named as a target by anti-tax avoidance protesters. Activists linked to UK Uncut have scheduled protests at Topshop branches in Birmingham and Manchester this Saturday, with more expected to follow in the run-up to Christmas, while a group protesting against education cuts and tax avoidance occupied the pavement in front of Topshop’s flagship branch on Oxford Street yesterday. UK Uncut managed to shut down 20 branches of Vodafone earlier this month during action against its tax status in the UK. Sir Philip’s family tax affairs came under fire earlier this year in May when he was appointed by the coalition to report on waste in the government.
