Surrey schoolboy, 18, smashes record breaking double century
SCHOOLBOY Dominic Sibley became the youngest player to hit a double century in the County Championship yesterday in Surrey’s Division One match against Yorkshire.
The 18-year-old, who was given time off lessons to play in only his third first-class game, ended the day 220 not out as Surrey reached 572-4 – a lead of 138.
Opener Sibley’s innings saw him become Surrey’s youngest ever centurion and contributed to a 236-run stand with prolific South Africa batsman Hashim Amla.
He started day three of the match on 81 and finished it having faced more than 500 balls in a stint at the crease of almost 10 hours.
