Spread Betting on the Derby
The old expression ‘horses for courses’ is never more appropriate when it comes to betting at Epsom, with its unique hills, undulations, and cambers.
Sporting Index will price up a series of match-bets on each of this afternoon’s seven races where they pitch two horses together. As the name suggests, the rest of the field are taken out of the equation and it’s a straight shoot-out between the two nominated runners.
They make a prediction on the final distance between the pair as they cross the line, then you decide whether that margin will be more or less. The maximum is capped at 12 lengths so you have protection should something disastrous happen.
Look out for horses who have gone well at the track in the past. Smoothtalkinrascal ran an absolute cracker in the Dash 12 months ago and looks sure to run well again. Blue Surf (4.50pm) and Arctic Feeling (5.25pm) have both gone well here previously and should also be kept onside.
As for the Derby itself, Sporting Index are predicting that Kingston Hill will finish between ¼ and 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Geoffrey Chaucer. I’d certainly be a seller siding with the Irish raider getting ¼ length start, particularly if the forecast rain doesn’t materialise.
True Story is expected to finish ½ length in front of Orchestra and again I’d be a seller siding with the proven stayer.
