Speech lays into absurd UK taxes
THE UK’S complex tax system was slammed yesterday by Paul Johnson, head of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, a fiscal think tank.
Naming mistakes made by the current government, he said it was “hard to think of a rationale” for leaving the threshold for national insurance payments so low while raising the income tax allowance.
He added that house valuations used for council tax are a quarter of a century out of date and “increasingly absurd”.
