Rolls Royce bags £100m offshore engine orders
Engine maker Rolls Royce has won more than £100m in new orders to supply ship engines for offshore oil and gas vessels.
The ships are for deepwater oil and gas drilling and require engines with multiple thrusters that can move them to and from drill sites, but will also keep the vessel in place while the drilling goes on.
The orders have been placed by ship owners including Sea Drill, Pacific Drilling, Noble, Ocean Rig and Pride, which will build the vessels at shipyards in Asia.
Rolls-Royce president of offshore Anders Almestad said the propulsion systems had “extraordinary demands placed on them.”
