Robson ready for Na as Murray’s rival goes
SHOULD British No3 Laura Robson today defeat Li Na of China to advance to the fourth round of the US Open, she will have succeeded where on Monday Heather Watson failed.
Watson lost 6-2, 6-3 to the world No8 but while their respective rankings suggests Na is the firm favourite, Robson’s outstanding victory over three-time champion Kim Clijsters on Wednesday highlighted a talent that could yet inspire further surprise.
Only hours after Robson’s success, British No1 Andy Murray secured his second successive straight-sets victory to defeat Ivan Dodig 6-2, 6-1 and set up a third-round tie against Spain’s Feliciano Lopez today.
Should he win, Murray is certain to avoid Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who last night suffered a shock four-set defeat to Martin Klizan.
