Robert De Niro gets green light for boutique hotel The Wellington in Covent Garden
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has been given the green light to open a boutique hotel in the heart of Covent Garden.
De Niro has been working with Capital & Counties Properties and BD Hotels on the project for the luxury 83-room hotel, which will be called The Wellington.
Westminster city council granted planning permission today, after an application was filed in May.
Work on the property will start next year and is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

The Godfather II and Taxi Driver star will be a joint operator of the building, which will be in six buildings, half of them Grade II listed, in Wellington, Tavistock, Burleigh and Exeter streets.
The hotel site will also include two restaurants, a spa and a members' club.
Since 2008 De Niro and BD Hotels have operated The Greenwich hotel in the Tribeca area of Manhattan. This will be the first hotel the partnership has launched outside of the US.
