Rise in British job postings but global earnings slide at Page
RECRUITMENT firm Page Group said yesterday that conditions for the global labour market are showing signs of recovery after its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division posted the first rise in reported quarterly growth since 2012.
The region, which is its largest division making up around 40 per cent of the group, said profit was up 1.1 per cent on a reported basis in the fourth quarter, helped by a marked improvement in Germany and France.
In the UK, gross profit was up 5.1 per cent at £31.8m in the quarter, producing a 2.2 per cent increase over the year.
Gross profit for the group was down 1.2 per cent to £125m in the quarter due to weakness in Asia Pacific, but up 0.3 per cent on a constant currency basis
The firm, formerly Michael Page International, said fees from permanent jobs, which make up three-quarters of profits, were down 2.9 per cent.
