Reynolds, Mac and Apollo buy Wrexham pub
Ryan Reynolds, Rob Mac and Apollo Sports Capital have purchased a pub in a move that expands Wrexham AFC’s footprint.
The Turf, which used to look over the stands and into the Championship football ground, has been added to a portfolio by the club’s owners which includes both Wrexham and their Racecourse Ground home.
The acquisition comes weeks after the local council told the club to “get their act in order” after Wrexham built a training base without planning permission. They had lodged an application after work had started last month.
Eric Allyn, on behalf of minority investors the Allyn family, said: “Ever since we invested in Wrexham AFC through Red Dragon Ventures in 2024, the town, the community and the Football Club have become a second home.
“And no place more so than The Turf with Wayne Jones behind the bar and filled with the locals and international fans that visit regularly – they have all become our friends and have welcomed us into the Wrexham family.
“By bringing The Turf into the group, we are securing the long-term future of the pub and with it preserving its history and that of the club.”
Wrexham pub snapped up
The existing landlord, Wayne Jones, will be kept on at the club – which has seen a rapid rise to the second tier of English football after being purchased by Reynolds and Mac in 2021.
The Hollywood pair later acquired the Racecourse Ground freehold and then received government grants for a regeneration project.
And in December 2025 the club sold a minority stake to major sports investors Apollo Sports Capital at a £350m valuation.
The club’s ground is currently experiencing a regeneration, with its Kop Stand being rebuilt to house more supporters.
Wrexham are 14th in the Championship having won two of their opening eight games, against Southampton and Millwall.
