Record new low for Ed Miliband’s approval rating
Labour leader Ed Miliband has seen his approval rating among the British public sink to a record low, a new poll has found.
Miliband’s satisfaction rating slipped from -25 to -39 in a poll conducted by ICM for the Guardian newspaper yesterday. The ratings mean that 61 per cent of those asked think the Labour leader is doing a bad job, while just 22 per cent were pleased with his record.
The poll represents a new low for the troubled Miliband, who has seen his credibility questioned on a number of occasions in recent weeks.
The results weren’t much better for Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, whose own rating among the British public slipped from -21 to -37, a dip of 16 points.
The increased negativity towards the Liberal Democrat leader is likely to be a symptom of the party’s poor result in the recent EU elections, where it lost all but one of its MEPs.
Prime Minister David Cameron was not immune to the negativity, seeing his own rating fall from +2 to -5 from May to June. A surprise winner was chancellor George Osborne, whose popularity was up from +5 to +6.
